Competition Rules (Live)
The 2nd Elevato Piano Competition for International Youth 2021 will be taking place at the Bern Music School and Conservatory (Konsibern) in Bern, Switzerland on July 10th 2021.
Pianists of all nationalities aged 8 and under, 12 and under, 15 and under, 18 and under, 19 and up may participate. For chamber, participants aged 12 and under, 15 and under, 16 and up may participate.
There will be two rounds: the first round being based on video recordings, and the second being live in Bern.
Participants may not make any attempt to be in contact with any of the jury during the competition, and vice-versa. Jury members will not evaluate their own students.
Participants will be evaluated on a point based system from 80 to 100 points. The final results given by the jury are not subject to change.
Video applications for the first round must have been recorded by the participant, within the past 12 months. Videos should be recorded in one camera angle, without any editing or changes. Participants’ entire silhouette and hands should be clearly visible. Recordings with orchestra will not be accepted.
Program change after application is not allowed.
The solo repertoire must be played by memory. An exception is made for contemporary pieces and chamber music. The order of pieces can be chosen by the performer.
Participants may apply for up to two different categories
First Round
The Jury will evaluate participants through video recordings. The first round applications are due on March 30th 2021 (Early registration - March 1st). The results will be announced by April 20th
Final Round
The final round will take place at the Bern Music School and Conservatory (Konsibern) on July 10th. The jury will evaluate the live performances of the participants. The final round is open to the public.
Participants may choose to play the same pieces as the first round, but they must play at least 1 different piece from the first round
Competition Rules (Online)
Participants may choose to participate online, without performing live in Bern. Evaluations will be the same, and participants are eligible to receive prizes.

(It is not necessary to re-record the same piece to submit it)
However, participants are advised to submit more than 1 new piece/video, so that the jury can evaluate a new performance.

Chamber participants are permitted to use only string instruments: Piano duo, trio, quartet, quintet
Program - free choice.
Program duration - up to 30 minutes total.
Duration can be exceeded by 1 minute maximum
