Rules
-Chopin Festival Tokyo is open to participants of all nationalities.
-The competition comprises of participants from 18 to 25 years old
-The competition takes place at C. Bechstein Centrum in Chiyoda City, Tokyo Japan on March 27/28/29 2024
-The application deadline is December 31 2023 at 23:59 PST/11:59 pm
Applications open on December 1 2023.
The age of the participant is considered as of December 31 2023
-There will be an Online Preselection + 3 rounds in Tokyo Japan
Preselection:
10-15 minutes video recording of Chopin piece(s) (Free choice)
24 participants will be selected for the first round.
3/27: Round 1: Day 1: Each participant will play:
2 Etudes (One Etude from Op. 10 and one Etude from Op 25.)
1 Nocturne (Free choice)
2 Waltzes (Free choice)
12 participants will be selected for the second round.
3/28: Round 2: Day 2: Each participant will play:
1 Opus Mazurka
And 2 selections (free choice) from below
1 Scherzo
1 Polonaise
1 Ballade
Barcarolle in F sharp major Op. 60
5 participants will be selected for the third round.
3/29: Round 3: Day 3:
1 Chopin Concerto (Free choice)
with piano accompaniment
Application Fee
Administration: 40 Euros
Preselection (Video Recording): 170 Euros
Round 1: 160 Euros
Round 2&3: 200 Euros
-Preselection-All participants can submit one or multiple YouTube videos
(If youtube is unavailable in your country, such as China, please submit through Bilibili or Youku)
-Competition repertoire must be played from memory
-During live rounds in Tokyo, the same pieces can be repeated as the online preselection round
-The Competition's Commitee has the authority to interpret the rules of the competition, and make any changes if necessary.
-Videos are not suggested to be filmed more than 8 months prior to submission.
-The video must clearly show the pianist’s face and hands in the frame at all times.
The video must be shot from one fixed angle/position. The quality of the videos
must be good and clear. The sound of the videos should not have any echo
-Videos are not advised to be filmed from any other concert performance. Videos must have been filmed specifically for the Chopin Festival-Youth Competition.
